Thumbs up for Dombeya from John Platter
It has been out for a while, but the 2009 edition of the bible of South African wine made good reading for the crew at Dombeya. The John Platter Guide is the tome of choice for wine consumers in South Africa, and increasingly overseas as well. It covers a huge amount of territory, and does an excellent job of trying to keep in touch with the ever expanding number of wine brands that keep popping up in the Cape.
Platter saved its biggest wrap this year for the Dombeya Chardonnay 2007, giving it a whopping 4 1/2 stars. To put that in perspective, five stars is the highest accolade, and only one Chardonnay was awarded five stars for the year. With our 2006 Chardonnay being selected in the Tri Nations Wine Challenge team for South Africa in 2008 it seems that we are really doing something right with the variety. Does this mean we can say that we have the second best Chardonnay in South Africa? Nah, we wouldn't be so bold......would we!!
